Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, launched during February 2024, was given impetus in Budget 2024. Its objective is to install rooftop solar panels in one crore houses in the country, for which subsidy is also being given by the government. Now the question arises that how should a solar product be selected for Surya Ghar Yojana? Can subsidy get stuck because of these also?
How much subsidy is being given on Surya Ghar Yojana?
First of all, let us tell you how much subsidy is available in Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Let us tell you that under this scheme, if a person installs a solar system up to two kilowatts, he gets subsidy up to 60 percent. At the same time, up to 40% subsidy is given on installation of three kilowatt solar system. This means that if the installation of a two kilowatt solar system costs around Rs 1 lakh, then a subsidy of around Rs 60 thousand is available from the government. The thing to note is that if the electricity generated from the solar system is left even after consumption, then the government buys it.

How many people have applied so far?
The government has started planning to provide subsidy as soon as possible to those who have applied for Surya Ghar Yojana. According to media reports, planning is going on to give subsidy to the people eligible for this scheme in just seven days. Let us tell you that till now more than 1.30 crore people have applied for this scheme. It is also being claimed that people will get 300 units of free electricity under Surya Ghar Yojana.
This is how to apply for the scheme
For PM Surya Ghar Yojana one has to apply on www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in. While filling the application form, you have to provide information like your name, phone number, related discom and consumer number etc. Let us tell you that Discoms are those companies which have the responsibility of distributing electricity to the consumers.

Can subsidy get stuck due to product?
Now the question arises whether the subsidy of Surya Ghar Yojana can get stuck due to wrong product? In this matter, Raman Bhatia, Founder and MD of Servotech Power Systems Limited, said that there may be difficulty in getting subsidy due to wrong product. Actually, subsidy of Surya Ghar Yojana is available only on on-grid solar system. He said that solar on-grid inverter, solar hybrid inverter, solar micro inverter, battery energy storage system and solar pump controller etc. are available in the market, with the help of which there is no problem in getting subsidy.
These people do not get the benefit of the scheme
The important thing is that tenants cannot apply for this scheme. If the landlord wants, he can install a solar system on his house and the tenants can use it. However, the income from sale of electricity will go to the landlord’s account only.
